Why choose a Specialist Orthodontist?

Unless you are referred to an Orthodontist you may not be aware of the difference between a Dentist and an Orthodontist. Orthodontists are Specialist Dentists practicing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities to correctly align teeth, bites, and jaws. You may be referred to an Orthodontist by your own dentist to straighten your teeth and ensure that your bite is correct. A general dentist looks after your mouth in the same way that your GP would look after your body. A Dentist is a skilled general practitioner who can diagnose and treat problems and common diseases that affect your teeth, mouth, and gums. Dentists complete a General Dental Degree which takes at least 5 years, and they are the frontline of great oral health for all ages. An Orthodontist will complete an additional three years of university training, on top of the normal dental degree, and are specially trained to diagnose and treat crooked teeth. They hold a General Dental Degree and a Specialist Orthodontic Degree. It is very common for patients to have a malocclusion (bad bite or irregular bite) which is a problem in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together when you close your mouth. This may affect the way you bite and chew your food. Many people also choose to have their teeth straighten for aesthetic reasons and an Orthodontist will be able to help you perfect your smile. Orthodontists are specialists in delivering all orthodontic treatment options, whether for children or adults and are experts in the various options and treatments that are available today to correct bites and straighten teeth.

Please note that our Specialist led team also includes Dentists with a special interest in Orthodontics.
These are Dentists who have focused their clinical work on Orthodontics for 20+ years!

TREATMENT OPTIONS FAQ's

?

What is the Invisalign CLEAR ALIGNER system?

Invisalign clear aligners are a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, we can plan your complete Invisalign treatment based on your Practitioner’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

Then a series of Invisalign clear aligners are custom made for your teeth and your teeth only to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your Practitioner, based on your specific needs.

?

What IS THE GEMINI METAL BRACE system?

Many adults still have painful memories of the big clunky braces from the past. Luckily, times have changed, and so have metal braces. The Gemini metal brace system from 3M are smaller and more comfortable braces than ever before with low profiles and strong adhesives.

If you are considering metal braces, the process is easy and quick. Firstly, your orthodontist will map your mouth by taking x-rays, impressions or a scan, in order to plan where your teeth need to move to. The braces are carefully fitted to best suit you. It is a pain free process with as little discomfort as possible.

?

WHAT IS THE DAMON SELF-LIGATING BRACE SYSTEM?

Damon braces are the market leaders of a system of fixed braces which have the benefit of being “self-ligating”. This means that they do not need elastics to tie the wires into the brackets.

Damon System braces are fast, fixed cosmetic orthodontic braces using a low friction slide mechanism and very light titanium wires exerting lighter force on your teeth. Not only is this treatment more comfortable than traditional braces, but it also gives high quality results achieved in a shorter period of time. Overall, your treatment will be finished on average six months faster than with conventional braces.

?

WHAT IS THE CLARITY CERAMIC BRACE SYSTEM?

As an alternative to metal braces, we offer tooth coloured braces or ceramic braces. Clarity™ braces are made of transparent ceramics so your natural tooth colour can shine through - for an unobtrusive look.

If you would prefer a less obvious solution, ceramic braces are ideal. This brace may also be more suitable if you are allergic to nickel or chrome. Talk to one of our Orthodontists to see how Clarity could work for you.

?

WHAT IS THE WIN LINGUAL BRACE SYSTEM?

WiN Lingual systems are the totally hidden braces that will move your teeth without anyone even knowing you are wearing a brace.

If you would rather no one knew you were wearing a brace for aesthetic or professional reasons then a WIN lingual brace could be an option for you. The braces are 100% customised to deliver specific results for each patient. Your orthodontist determines your treatment plan and then your braces are custom made just for you.

?

What is the SPARK CLEAR ALIGNER system?

Spark clear aligners are a type of orthodontic treatment designed to straighten teeth and improve dental alignment. They are a popular alternative to traditional metal braces and also the Invisalign clear aligner system - offering a more discreet and comfortable solution for people seeking to correct dental misalignment.

Spark clear aligners are made from a transparent and flexible plastic material that fits snugly over the teeth. They are custom-designed based on a 3D scan or impression of the patient's teeth. The aligners work by applying gentle and controlled pressure to gradually shift the teeth into the desired position.
